‘Huge’ update on Mohamed Salah contract talks with Liverpool emerge after the latest twist

According to Football Insider, Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, are still hopeful of reaching an agreement with Mohamed Salah on a new long-term contract.

Fresh worries have emerged about the Egyptian superstar’s future after Jurgen Klopp stated last month that the club has made no progress in securing him a new contract.

According to a source close to Liverpool, club executives believe Salah would finally decrease his wage demands in order to stay at Anfield and sign a “big” new contract.

This confidence stems in part from the dearth of credible options for the Premier League’s leading scorer this season, both in England and on the Continent.

Both Spanish heavyweights have had financial problems, Chelsea’s financial ambitions in the post-Roman Abramovich era are uncertain, and a move to Manchester United is out of the question.

That leaves PSG, who could lose Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi this summer, and Manchester City, who are pursuing Erling Haaland as their big summer acquisition, as possible candidates among the global elite capable of meeting Salah’s wage demands.

The 29-year-choice old’s is to stay at Anfield, but he and his agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, have rejected the club’s most recent contract offer.

Abbas Issa sparked outrage when he posted smiling emojis on his own social media account in reaction to Jurgen Klopp’s comments that  “it’s all completely fine” and “there’s no rush”  with the negotiations.

Salah wants £500,000 a week to stay at Anfield, which he claims is not “crazy” given his accomplishments at the club.

Behind the scenes, FSG is optimistic that a “big” arrangement with its star player can be reached before the summer.

Salah’s wage demands would have to be reduced as a result, which the club’s administration believes is likely.

His current contract expires in June 2023, so the weeks coming up to the summer are crucial before he enters the final year of his contract.
