Huge update as Ten Hag now wants Mason Greenwood at United next season

Manchester United  concluded a hopeful season on a negative tone when they experienced a 1-2 loss against their arch-rivals, Manchester City, in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

This defeat was not only disappointing because it prevented the Red Devils from securing their second trophy of the season, but it also allowed the City team to move closer to achieving the Treble.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, won’t have ample time to dwell on this defeat. Instead, he must quickly resume his duties and strategize a plan to guide the team back to a leading position.

One of Erik ten Hag’s initial tasks is to bolster the attacking department of the club, as Manchester United currently lacks a top-tier goal scorer.

United need a top striker

Due to Anthony Martial’s absence at Wembley and his history of injuries, it is speculated that this could potentially be his final season with Manchester United.

While Wout Weghorst was brought in on loan, it appears unlikely that the club will pursue a permanent signing for him. Additionally, although Marcus Rashford has been a prolific goal scorer, there are doubts about his ability to spearhead the attack on his own.

Manchester United’s preferred choice to strengthen their attacking line seems to be Tottenham’s all-time leading goal scorer, Harry Kane. However, the club is aware of the negotiating challenges they may face with Daniel Levy, Tottenham’s chairman, as he might not permit the transfer of the England captain to Manchester United.

In addition to pursuing primary options like Harry Kane, Manchester United is keeping an eye on several alternative choices for strengthening their attacking options. Players such as Rasmus Hojlund, Dusan Vlahovic, and Randal Kolo Muani are being monitored as potential backup options.

Furthermore, manager Erik ten Hag has recently mentioned the possibility of reintegrating Mason Greenwood into the striker’s role. The Peoples Person reported on a statement by the former Ajax boss, highlighting Greenwood’s skill and ability to play as a striker.

It is worth noting that Greenwood faced disciplinary action from Manchester United last year after being suspended due to charges of attempted rape, assault, and coercive behavior.

The charges mentioned earlier were dismissed in February of this year due to the withdrawal of crucial witnesses in the case. At present, the club is actively conducting a comprehensive internal investigation. Speculations suggest that the club will engage in discussions with different parties, including the women’s team and sponsors, before making a final decision.

ETH wants Greenwood’s services

According to Football Transfers, Ten Hag expresses a preference for retaining Greenwood rather than selling him, as he believes the young player is an ideal match for his system.

“Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag would like Mason Greenwood to stay at Old Trafford next season, according to sources close to the club.

“Ten Hag appreciates the footballing qualities of the 21-year-old and believes he should be kept at Old Trafford on this basis.

“The former Ajax boss faces opposition from several board members, who believe Greenwood should not play for Man Utd again.”

The report also indicates that with the conclusion of the season, the club is likely to prioritize addressing the Greenwood situation. A final decision regarding Greenwood’s future may be postponed until new owners are appointed, as their input could greatly influence the ultimate decision.
