Huge setback for Ten Hag as team doctor delivers troubling update on United star
Antony remains injured and may miss Manchester United’s final Premier League match before the World Cup.
On Sunday, Manchester United will play Fulham with the intent of closing out this portion of the season with a victory.
However, according to the Brazilian National Team’s doctor Rodrigo Lasmar (via Goal), Antony continues to train independently as he attempts to regain fitness.
“Antony had a small problem in the flexor muscles of the right hip, he is in the recovery process,” he said.
“We’re in contact with the player, with the medical department. He’s in a recovery phase.”
Due to United’s lack of attacking options, Erik ten Hag will be hoping that his summer signing is able to play on Sunday.
However, based on Lasmar’s remarks, Antony may be out for the week.
“We have time for him to recover in time to be with us. This week is important, we are talking day by day. This final phase is important.”
Due to the fact that the winger has missed United’s last three matches due to injury, it is unlikely that he will return to training with the team for an extended period of time before the World Cup.
“A lot depends on this week,” said Lasmar.
“I spoke to him in the morning, he’s feeling better, it’s early. He hasn’t started training with the group yet, he’s in physical therapy.”
United may attempt to rush Antony back for their final pre-tournament game, but with the World Cup on the horizon, it may not be realistic to expect him to play at Craven Cottage at full strength.
