Manchester United captain Harry Maguire best be on alarm because Jadon Sancho has a habit of nutmegging club captains.

The 21-year-old’s long-awaited move to Manchester United has been proclaimed, with a settlement agreed in principle for Sancho’s return to English football.

United and Borussia Dortmund completed a £73 million fee that will be paid in parts, with Sancho poised to undergo a medical and complete the transfer after the European Championship this summer.

Manchester City, his former employers, will receive around £11 million due to a sell-on clause included in the deal that took him to Dortmund.

In one of his first training sessions with the German club, Sancho was given a severe warning from captain Marcel Schmelzer after a nutmeg.

In fact, that wasn’t the isolated occasion Sancho nutmegged an opponent and felt the consequences.

In a City training session, Vincent Kompany was deceived by Sancho – a skill move he wasn’t best pleased with.

“I nutmegged the captains of Dortmund (Marcel Schmelzer) and City (Vincent Kompany) and they said: ‘don’t do that again.’ They don’t like it.” he revealed in an interview with JD Sports.

Sancho, as we know, loves cleaning opposition defenders after sharpening his skills playing street football in South London and growing up admiring the ultimate footballing showman in Ronaldinho.

Speaking to SPORTbible in 2019, Sancho said:
“For me personally I just like to show what I have and just try and do everything for my team – if it does include a nutmeg then it includes a nutmeg. I’m more than happy to get the crowd cheering, get excited and stand on their feet.”

Sancho confesses he used to perform plenty of skills in his early days at The Etihad but as time went on, he dropped that part of his game.

“I was always skillful as a youngster but now I don’t do skills as much because the game has got quicker and it’s more serious.

“Getting my first league call-up was a big opportunity. I just wanted to express myself. I’m more mature now, I know when to release the ball. I’m not greedy but I just want to show what I can do.”

He may been told to stop nutmegging players in training after teammates became frustrated with his regular skills and trickery, but you’ve got to acclaim the valor of it all.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has recently maintained he has ‘no regrets’ over allowing Sancho to bequeath the Premier League for Germany.

“I’ve said many times, it is not a regret,” Guardiola said. “He decides. He’s doing really well. Congratulations, he’s an exceptional player.

“He is a national team player with huge quality, doing really well in Dortmund. We wanted him to stay but he decided to leave, and when people decide to leave all we can do is (let them) leave.

“I wish him all the best, except when he plays against us. No regrets at all. If he’s happy, I’m happy.”
