Hope is not lost for Alejandro Garnacho’s World Cup dreams as Argentina boss makes fresh remarks

Hope is not lost for Alejandro Garnacho’s World Cup dreams as Argentina boss makes fresh remarks

After establishing himself as a member of Manchester United’s first team, Alejandro Garnacho is reveling in his debut.

Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni called Garnacho up to the national team this year, recognizing his talent.

While Garnacho did not play, he was able to train alongside Lionel Messi and the rest of the team to demonstrate his abilities.

The 18-year-old has since returned to  Manchester United, where he has scored two game-winning goals and provided two assists.

Last week, when Argentina named their squad, Garnacho may have been slightly unlucky not to be selected as a wildcard. However, hope is not lost.

Alejandro Garnacho’s World Cup dreams are not over

On Wednesday, Argentina defeated UAE 5-0 in a friendly match, with Lisandro Martinez playing the entire 90 minutes.

After the game, Lionel Scaloni told El Sol that he is still willing to make changes to his 26-man squad up until the final deadline, which is 24 hours before Argentina’s first game the following week.

Scaloni does not know if he will be able to count on Argentina’s four injured players, who all missed yesterday’s game, for the remainder of the tournament.

Scaloni said: “We have days to decide. There are some players who are physically troubled. The truth is that we are not sure that these 26 players are all in the squad, luckily, we have days to decide if we have to make any modifications.”

Three of the four injured players are attacking players. The  three are Fiorentina forward Nicolas Gonzalez, Roma’s Paulo Dybala, and Sevilla’s Papu Gomez.

Therefore, with three attackers having question marks over them, there is a possibility that Garnacho will be called up, especially if more than one name must be eliminated.

Garnacho would be a wildcard option for the World Cup, and adding him to Scaloni’s squad to gain experience would not be detrimental.

History has shown that fearless players can emerge at the World Cup, so you would not bet against Garnacho making his mark if he were given the chance.

If no opportunity presents itself, he will have to wait until 2026.
