“He’s waiting for a call from Manchester United” – Manager only interested in Ole Gunnar job
According to reports in Italy, Antonio Conte has turned down a lavish offer from Newcastle United because he is awaiting an approach from Manchester United.
The former Chelsea manager has been out of work since leaving Inter Milan in May, just weeks after leading them to a league title.
His name has recently been linked to both United and the Tyneside club, with Old Trafford links growing.
Following Manchester United’s 4-2 loss to Leicester City at the weekend, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under pressure.
With this latest defeat, the Red Devils have only picked up one point in their last three league games.
Italian journalist Fabio Santini stated on 7 Gold’s Il Processo that Conte is not interested in joining Newcastle.
“Antonio Conte has refused a pharaonic offer from Newcastle. The reason? He is waiting for a call from Manchester United,” Santini was quoted as saying by Area Napoli.
Manchester United faces Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester City in the Premier League, as well as Atalanta twice in the Champions League, before the international break in November.
If the results do not go in United’s favor, rumors linking Conte and other managers to the English club might gain momentum.
