‘He’s done it again’: Jorginho says £40m Chelsea star’s dribbling always surprises him
Jorginho claims that Chelsea teammate Mateo Kovacic’s dribbling always surprises him.
Jorginho, 29, is one of several high-quality midfielders at Stamford Bridge.
Kovacic, who cost the Blues £40 million, is another player who fits the bill.
The 27-year-old central midfielder has arguably been the club’s player of the season thus far, despite suffering a hamstring injury that has forced him to miss the last few games.
The international break may have come at the right time for him, giving him more time to recover.
A large part of his game revolves around his ability to dribble forward quickly and break opposition lines. With the Croatian in such good form this season, Chelsea can easily attack opponents with speed and precision.
Jorginho has admitted that Kovacic’s ability to maintain possession in certain situations continues to perplex him.
“Mateo Kovacic is more of a playmaker with more technical skills to advance in small spaces, someone who enjoys having the ball at his feet. He’s more about creating play than Kante, who is there for stopping the opposition, even though Kante does a lot of playmaking too with all his speed and those quick legs of his. He’ll thrust in between two opponents, and when I think he’s lost it, no, he’s done it again. He never misses the ball,” Jorginho said.
Outside of Chelsea, Kovacic is vastly underappreciated.
With five Premier League assists already under his belt, the midfielder has been a revelation at Stamford Bridge this season.
Last month, Blues manager Thomas Tuchel praised Kovacic, Jorginho, and N’Golo Kante.
It appears that Kovacic does not receive the same amount of attention as his teammates. But everyone who follows Chelsea knows how important he can be when he’s at his best.
Kovacic must be included in this discussion. His agility and quick changes of direction make him a fascinating player to watch.
Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, and Callum Hudson-Odoi, on the other hand, deserve special mention.
Many people think the Blues are boring to watch, but not when these players are on the field.
