‘He’s an outstanding talent’: Steven Gerrard admits he loves one Arsenal star after Aston Villa defeat
In comments quoted by The Times, Steven Gerrard praised Bukayo Saka despite his dissatisfaction with the Arsenal star’s request for more protection following the Gunners’ win against Aston Villa on Saturday.
Saka scored the only goal at Villa Park as Mikel Arteta’s team continued to pose a challenge to all of their Premier League top-four rivals.
However, his first-half strike was not the only talking point.
The Arsenal youngster was displeased with some of the challenges he was subjected to.
There was one such instance when he was apprehended by Tyrone Mings.
At the end of the game, the 20-year-old was spotted speaking with the referee.
And he later stated that he was not pleased about being booted throughout the competition.
Gerrard has refuted the notion that Villa were too tough on Saka. In response to his words, he did express his admiration for the Arsenal player.
“It’s part of the game. The last time I checked it is not a no-contact sport,” he said, as reported by The Times. “
Tackles are allowed, physicality is allowed, aggression is allowed. He’s a good player, he’s an outstanding talent, I love him, but he can’t complain about that. That’s football.”
A peek at social media reveals a wide difference on this issue.
Many Aston Villa supporters, for example, do not regard Mings’ challenge as an issue. Maybe he has a little less control after he gets to the ball. However, this appears to be too critical.
Of course, Arsenal fans have every right to be concerned about Saka.
It would be naïve to believe that teams are not attempting to keep him quiet. As a result, they must devise a strategy to minimize his impact.
Saka is Arsenal’s crowning achievement. As a result, he will, sadly, have to be prepared for harsher treatment at times.
