‘He’s a joke!’ – Chelsea star makes admission about Man City’s Phil Foden after England World Cup call-up
Conor Gallagher, a midfielder for Chelsea, referred to Phil Foden, a star for Manchester City, as a “joke” following his World Cup call-up, while heaping praise on Pep Guardiola’s talented youngster.
Foden was selected alongside John Stones, Kyle Walker, Kalvin Phillips, and Jack Grealish in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for Qatar. On Monday, November 21, the Three Lions kick off their campaign against Iran in the opening match of Group B.
Guardiola’s men are rewarded for their excellent performances this season with a chance to represent their country at the highest level of international football. As a result, City’s stars will be crucial to England’s success.
Undoubtedly, Blues fans will be cheering on their players, while also hoping that they avoid injuries ahead of a busy schedule later in the season.
Foden has scored eight goals and dished out three assists in 20 appearances for City across all competitions this season, demonstrating his versatility in Guardiola’s attack.
Gallagher and the 22-year-old both represented England at the youth level, where they both played alongside Gallagher, and the former Crystal Palace loanee has now heaped praise on his fellow midfielder following his national team call-up.
Speaking to JD Sports’ YouTube channel, he said: “He’s a joke! Playing with him at England [youth level] was special, what he could do with the ball, you knew he was going to be a top player. It was easy for him, very natural, and you just knew he was going to be world class”
