‘Here we go soon…’ – Fabrizio Romano now issues significant transfer blow for Man Utd and Ten Hag
According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United transfer target Antonio Rudiger is getting closer to a deal to Real Madrid.
Under new manager Erik ten Hag, the Red Devils might make up to ten signings this summer, with the 29-year-old emerging as a target earlier this month.
Ten Hag was said to be interested in replacing captain Harry Maguire with the Chelsea centre-back, who is out of contract at the end of June.
Blues boss Thomas Tuchel announced over the weekend that the German is poised to depart Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, but a transfer to Old Trafford does not appear to be on the cards for the player.
On Monday morning, transfer guru Romano came to Twitter to provide an important update on Rudiger’s future.
He revealed that Real Madrid and the 29-year-old have established a verbal agreement ahead of a free transfer to the Bernabeu, stating:
“Real Madrid have reached verbal agreement with Antonio Rudiger. Contract not signed yet – but Real Madrid are now closing on Rudiger deal on a free: here we go soon! #Real Madrid
“It’s gonna be a long-term deal. Final details to be discussed soon, before signing the contract.”
United have only maintained one clean sheet in their past 11 games across all competitions, implying that defensive reinforcements are required ahead of Ten Hag’s debut season in command at Old Trafford.
Landing a £31.5m-rated defender in Rudiger for nothing would have been a wise move, especially given his Premier League experience.
However, it appears that Ten Hag and United will have to abandon their pursuit of Rudiger, although a centre-back should remain high on the new manager’s summer shopping list.
