‘He told me’: Journalist reveals what Michael Edwards told him after Liverpool lost CL final
Michael Edwards revealed about this time last year that he was quitting Liverpool.
After the Champions League final versus Real Madrid, the legendary Sporting Director’s tenure at Anfield came to a close.
Julian Ward has succeeded him, and many are curious about Edwards’ future.
According to Redmen TV commentator Neil Jones, Edwards has no plans to return to the field in the near future.
In fact, according to the journalist, he spoke with Edwards after the Champions League final loss in Paris and was informed that the Sporting Director intended to take a break from the sport.
Edwards himself informed Jones that he is taking a step back.
“I think that ‘hiatus’ is the word. I understand what the appeal is, he’s the transfer guru who transformed Liverpool, but that underestimates how Liverpool work, it wasn’t just Edwards picking out players,” Jones said.
“I think he was always planning to take a fair break from football. He told me that himself after the Champions League final. I said to him like ‘good luck with whatever comes next.’ And he said ‘Well, what comes next is a holiday, a long holiday.’ So the question is how big is the itch?”
