“‘He is coming back”- Graham Potter delivers detailed Chelsea team news for Aston Villa tie

The availability of players for the upcoming Aston Villa game was addressed by Chelsea manager Graham Potter, who provided an update. Mason Mount will be fit to play, but Wesley Fofana and Raheem Sterling will not be available.

Due to a lower abdomen issue, Mount was sidelined for a few matches prior to the international break. He also withdrew from the England squad due to this injury.

Fofana, who had to leave the Everton match two weeks ago and subsequently withdrew from the French squad, might be ready for the Liverpool game on Tuesday, but he won’t be fit in time for the Aston Villa game.

The situation is similar for Raheem Sterling. Meanwhile, Christian Pulisic returned from international duty with a cold and will be assessed before the game.

Here’s what Potter said (h/t Football.London): “Well, Thiago and Azpi are still away. Raheem is coming back. He will miss the game, think he’s got more chance for Tuesday. He was close. Mason has trained and is available, probably not from the start but in the squad. Wesley is going to miss the game because his hamstring is still a little bit tight, there’s a chance for Tuesday with him. Christian Pulisic is the only one, he had a heavy cold returning from international duty so he’s one we’ve just got to check on.”

Chelsea faces a crucial period until the end of May, with every game being significant regardless of the competition. Despite currently being a considerable distance away in the league table, the team must aim to gather as many points as possible. Victories in the league matches could also be pivotal in building momentum for the vital Champions League fixture against Real Madrid.

The Aston Villa game holds significant importance for Chelsea due to two reasons. Firstly, Unai Emery’s team is currently level on points with Chelsea, so a win for Villa would drop Chelsea into the bottom half of the league table. This is a position the team would want to avoid.

Secondly, gaining momentum before the crucial game against Liverpool on Tuesday is essential. Hopefully, Potter and the team are aware of this and will aim to secure a win against Villa to build confidence and momentum for the upcoming game against Liverpool.

It is hoped that Sterling and Fofana will be available for the upcoming games as their presence will be crucial not only for the Liverpool match but also for the crucial European encounter against Madrid. Their participation in these games could have a significant impact on the team’s performance and chances of success.
