‘He has that No. 9 instinct’: Thierry Henry blown away by reported Arsenal target
In an interview with CBS Sport, Arsenal veteran Thierry Henry complimented alleged Gunners target Gabriel Jesus.
In recent days, Mikel Arteta’s charges have been prominently linked with the Manchester City and Brazil striker.
According to The Athletic, Jesus’ representatives have been in talks with Edu and Arsenal for several months.
Furthermore, the Citizens and Selecao striker is said to be open to a move to north London.
Meanwhile, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic Football Podcast, Arsenal has almost reached a personal agreement with Jesus.
He also stated that the Gunners are the favorites to sign him, despite the fact that the team is still discussing it.
If Manchester City buy Erling Braut Haaland in the summer, Jesus will fall farther down the pecking order.
The 25-year-contract expires in 2023, so this is City’s last chance to fetch a good price for him.
If they wait until next year, he may be able to go for very little in January or nothing at all in the summer.
In terms of potential new front-line recruits, Jesus is a strong candidate for Arsenal.
He is a world-class forward in the prime of his career with Premier League experience.
Jesus is also a versatile player, capable of playing both at center-forward and on the sides.
Last weekend, the Manchester City forward scored four goals against Watford.
In midweek, he also scored against Real Madrid.
And Henry was impressed by what he observed from Jesus.
“What he can give offensively to the team,’ the Highbury icon said on CBS Sports, via Metro.
“We saw that he scored four goals at the weekend [against Watford].
“When he is in the box, he’s one of the three that is playing, or since [Sergio] Aguero left, he has that nine instinct.
“He has what the number nine would smell.
“What I like with him is that when he puts pressure, whether it’s on the left, on the right or in the middle, he doesn’t have a problem to defend in them situations by coming back and helping his team.”
