As Harry Kane prepared to take the penalty kick, he must have been flooded with memories.

This was his first time taking a penalty for England since missing one in their 2-1 defeat to France in the World Cup quarter-finals in Qatar 103 days earlier.

The pressure was even greater this time, as a goal would make him England’s all-time leading scorer, surpassing Wayne Rooney’s record of 53 goals.

Despite this, Kane remained calm and collected, and he celebrated with a mix of relief and pride as he scored, breaking the record and taking his tally to an unprecedented 54 goals.

Now that he has secured his position as England’s top scorer, Harry Kane may be dreaming of surpassing Alan Shearer’s record of 260 Premier League goals and becoming the league’s all-time leading scorer.

He would be regarded as the most lethal striker in the division’s history. Despite achieving several personal milestones, including becoming Tottenham Hotspur’s all-time leading scorer earlier this season, Kane has yet to win a major trophy in his career.

It is unfortunate that a player with so much talent and numerous record-breaking achievements has never won a significant title.

With his Tottenham contract expiring in June 2024 and the club’s trophy drought now spanning 15 years, this summer may be Kane’s perfect opportunity to leave and seek his first trophy elsewhere. He could move on to new opportunities and increase his chances of winning silverware.

It is widely known that Manchester United are keen on strengthening their attack by adding a new striker during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Despite the progress made under manager Erik ten Hag this season, the team lacks a world-class center-forward to take them to the next level in their development.

Ten Hag has reportedly identified Kane as his preferred target for United, who are also considering Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. Both players have been in fantastic form for their clubs this season, scoring a combined total of 48 goals.

As a result, they have garnered a lot of attention and interest from potential suitors.

The debate among Manchester United supporters regarding who would be a better fit for the team and Ten Hag’s style of play continues, with Kane and Osimhen being the top contenders for the striker position.

The discussions have taken into account various factors such as their experience, potential, and age.

Osimhen is younger than Kane by five years and is considered an athletic and contemporary striker with a lot of potential for the future. On the other hand, Kane is an established Premier League player with over 200 goals to his name in the competition.

He has scored 20 or more goals in five out of the last eight Premier League seasons. The debate has generated healthy discussions among supporters, with both players having their supporters.

With a record like that, the team deserves to win not just any trophy, but the Premier League itself. Despite the fact that United are still attempting to do so, based on their performance thus far in the Premier League this year, they are much closer to claiming the title than Spurs are.

Ten Hag has transformed United’s fortunes, and they could still win three major trophies this season. If that is possible without a player of Kane’s caliber up front, how successful could they be with him?

Even though slight concerns have been raised about Kane’s age, the England captain stated in the summer of 2021, when Manchester City was interested in signing him, that he intends to continue playing at the highest level and setting records for as long as possible.

“I feel like I’ve still got almost another career to play,” said Kane. “I’ve got seven, eight years, of what I’ve already had in the Premier League, so I’m not rushing anything, I’m not desperate to do anything.

“I’m not afraid to say I want to be the best. I want to try and get to the level [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Lionel] Messi got to. That’s my ultimate goal, to be winning trophies season-in, season-out and scoring 50, 60, 70 goals season-in, season-out.

“I’ve still got so much more to give. I can produce better numbers than I’m producing at the moment.”

Kane has a justified sense of assurance regarding his impressive goal-scoring abilities as he is considered one of the most exceptional strikers in history, with an unmatched track record. Nonetheless, achieving such a feat should result in winning trophies.

Considering the progress United has made this season and their aspirations for the future under Ten Hag, if Kane were to join the team, it would likely put an end to their trophy drought. United appears to be heading in the right direction once again, while Tottenham, as highlighted by Antonio Conte last weekend, is content with settling for fourth place year after year and lacks ambition.
