Harry Kane has told Chelsea players exactly what they want to know about Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino, the incoming head coach of Chelsea, has garnered widespread praise within the football community. There are very few individuals in the sport who speak negatively about him.

The Argentine manager, who will be arriving in London this week, is set to sign a three-year contract with Chelsea. Pochettino has been without a managerial position since his departure from Paris Saint-Germain last year.

Despite receiving several offers to return to management, he has been patiently waiting for the right opportunity. Following constructive discussions with Chelsea in recent weeks, Pochettino has now accepted the role of the club’s new head coach. He will assume the position at the end of the season, taking over from Graham Potter, who was dismissed in April.

Chelsea’s club hierarchy holds the belief that Mauricio Pochettino is the ideal candidate to revitalize the team’s performance on the field, especially considering their disappointing season so far. At 51 years old, Pochettino will need to rely on his exceptional skills in managing players to instill much-needed confidence in the squad before the next season begins.

Interim head coach Frank Lampard has openly discussed the team’s current lack of confidence and self-assurance. Lampard expressed his disappointment in how the team performed during their loss to Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals last month, attributing it to the team’s lack of belief and confidence.

“There was a lot there for us,” Lampard said. “As good as they are, offensively such a strong team, but in terms of us when we had the ball, there’s a little bit of a lack of belief. I think our players need to understand how good they are.”

Chelsea possesses a wealth of immensely talented players, some of whom are already considered world-class, while others are on the path to achieving that status. However, this season has witnessed a significant decline in their performances. The team is in dire need of a well-defined system, continuity, and stability, qualities that Mauricio Pochettino is expected to bring once his appointment is confirmed. It should be noted that establishing these elements will require time and patience.

During his successful five-year tenure at Tottenham Hotspur, Pochettino managed to cultivate a remarkable environment. He implemented a brilliant system and fostered a strong bond with many players, including Harry Kane. His ability to create such a cohesive unit highlights his past achievements and provides hope for a similar impact at Chelsea.

In an interview with the Evening Standard in June 2021, Kane said: “We got so close to winning it [the Champions League] with Mauricio. I would love to see him win it [with Paris Saint-Germain]. We had a great relationship. He is a great person, a great friend.”

Kane continued: “He was the boss, the leader, the one that set the standards in how we played and how we trained. So friendship would never get in the way of what he did on the football side of things. But we became friends in that the things we did and talked about went beyond football.”

Pochettino recognizes the significance of his backroom staff, as they play a crucial role in his approach to managing a football club. Together, they will strive to replicate the successful dynamics they had established in their previous endeavors with the new group of players at Stamford Bridge.

This endeavor is imperative, as Frank Lampard rightly pointed out, given the current lack of self-belief within the team. Such a deficiency undoubtedly impacts the players’ performance on the field, as football is a sport greatly influenced by confidence.

Why the hold-up to announce Pochettino?

According to a report by football.london, the slight delay in officially announcing Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea’s new head coach should not raise concerns. The process is in its final stages, and there are only formalities left before Pochettino is officially contracted to take over at Stamford Bridge at the conclusion of the season.

Pochettino is expected to arrive in London this week to finalize the signing of a three-year contract with Chelsea. However, it is important to note that Frank Lampard will remain in charge as the interim head coach until the end of the current season. Pochettino will then have the summer period to work with the Chelsea squad and prepare for the upcoming 2023/24 campaign.
