Guardiola explains how Man United decision makes him a ‘failure’

Pep Guardiola unexpectedly shared that his “idol” Julia Roberts shattered his heart by favoring Manchester United instead of his team.

On Tuesday night, Manchester City beat RB Leipzig 7-0 in a lopsided Champions League last-16 second-leg match. Superstar striker Erling Haaland scored five goals in total, securing an 8-1 aggregate victory and easily advancing to the quarter-final draw on Friday.

This impressive performance, both as a team and individually, increases the belief that Manchester City may finally achieve the one major trophy that has eluded them despite their remarkable domestic success under Guardiola’s seven-year leadership, which includes four Premier League titles, the FA Cup, and four League Cups.

Winning the Champions League would be a particularly satisfying accomplishment for Guardiola, who has faced criticism for not being able to secure the trophy again despite his successful managerial spells with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City.

Despite this, during a press conference following their victory over Leipzig, Guardiola made a humorous remark that even winning the trophy for a third time would not be enough to heal the heartbreak he experienced when Julia Roberts, his idol and a renowned Oscar-winning actress, apparently chose to watch Manchester United instead of his team during a prior visit to Manchester.

“I am a failure in the Champions League,” Guardiola said. “If I win the Champions League three times in a row I will be a failure.

“I have three idols in my life. Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Julia Roberts. These are my three idols.

“Julia Roberts years ago came to Manchester – not in the 90s when Sir Alex (Ferguson) was winning titles and titles and titles. She came in the period where we were better than United, in these four or five years, right?

“And she went to visit Man United. She didn’t come to see us. That’s why even if I win the Champions League it will not compare for the fact that Julia Roberts came to Manchester and didn’t come to see us.

“Even if I win the Champions League it will not compare to this disappointment I had.”
