Guardiola could land their next KDB with Man City swoop for “extraordinary” £68m magician

Manchester City have had a number of successful years under Pep Guardiola’s leadership.

The Citizens have won four Premier League titles, four League Cups, and one FA Cup since the 51-year-old took over as manager.

Kevin De Bruyne is a key member of Guardiola’s squad who has contributed significantly to the club’s success.

With 267 appearances under the current City manager, the Belgian has scored 70 goals and provided 108 assists.

De Bruyne, 31, is one of four outfield players in City’s squad who are over the age of 30.

Keeping this in mind, the remaining weeks of the summer transfer window may provide the Premier League champions with the opportunity to sign their next version of the star midfielder.

Lucas Paqueta is one player who has been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium and could fit the bill.

The Brazilian has scored 34 goals and provided 21 assists in 186 appearances for Flamengo, AC Milan, and his current club, Olympique Lyon.

When comparing his previous league campaign to De Bruyne’s, the duo both managed just over 30 shots on target and the same number of goal-creating actions (14).

They also finished the season with only a 17-pass difference between them, with Paqueta having 140 and De Bruyne having 157.

Clearly, the City target, like the Belgian, enjoys looking for a forward pass and spotting runners in behind.

This highlights the similarities between the two midfielders, as well as what the Lyon star could bring to City if he joins them this summer.

His overall Ligue 1 performances earned him a solid season rating of 7.24/10 from WhoScored, making him Lyon’s second-highest rated player.

Peter Bosz has described the 24-year-old as a “extraordinary” player, and he has certainly demonstrated the credentials to be the next version of De Bruyne and a possible long-term replacement for him at City.

With a reported fee of £68 million, securing a deal for the midfielder, especially if Bernardo Silva moves to Barcelona, would be a great way for the Manchester club to cap off what has been a busy summer transfer window in terms of the number of players who have moved in and out of the Etihad.
