Graham Potter puts nine Chelsea player up for sale, including Todd Boehly signing
Nine members of Graham Potter’s first-team squad have been put up for sale by Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer window, with the club hoping to recoup funds following a £600 million spending spree.
The Blues spent £320 million in January, following a summer expenditure of £280 million.
The club is wary of complying with the new UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations, despite having given long-term contracts to players to spread out the costs.
Aware that he will have too many players to keep satisfied at Stamford Bridge, Potter is also eager to trim his squad.
This summer, Christian Pulisic, who was acquired from Dortmund for £56 million in 2018, will have just 12 months remaining on his contract. In January, both Manchester United and Newcastle expressed interest in loaning him out.
Hakim Ziyech’s dream transfer to Paris Saint-Germain fell through due to a paperwork issue, and he intends to leave for good at the end of the season.
Kalidou Kouliably, a £33 million acquisition from Napoli just seven months ago, is surplus to requirements for the Blues after Benoit Badiashile’s arrival, and the club will consider offers.
Romelu Lukaku is anticipated to depart on significantly reduced terms following his £97m transfer to the club in 2021, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could move to Major League Soccer on loan.
ESPN reports that the Blues will also consider offers for Mateo Kovacic and Callum Hudson-Odoi, while N’Golo Kante remains unsigned and will be a free agent at the end of the season.
Mason Mount’s departure could be the most controversial. The England international is a product of the Chelsea academy and has been a shining light in an otherwise forgettable season.
