Graham Potter issues classy response to sack question after Dortmund

Graham Potter, the manager of Chelsea, attributed the team’s 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League to the hard work and determination of his players.

This victory was a turning point for the team and delighted the fans at Stamford Bridge. It was a significant result as it may have helped Potter gain the support of the Chelsea supporters, as his team produced one of their best performances of the season.

Although Graham Potter’s team secured a 1-0 win over Leeds, he was aware that losing the game could have meant the end of his tenure at the club.

The stakes were extremely high. However, Potter made the right choices in terms of team selection and motivated his players to perform at their best, indicating that he is the suitable candidate to guide the team in the future.

When asked whether he was worried about the possibility of losing his job at Stamford Bridge, Potter gave an excellent response. : “I didn’t really think about it in that way, there is always going to be that type of noise.

“My job is to help the players and to support them as they’ve been suffering. Nobody has enjoyed the run we had. That’s why today was important to us.”

When quizzed on whether he’d spoken to Todd Boehly, Potter added: “I have, I’m still here.”

Graham Potter made a significant decision to include Marc Cucurella instead of Benoit Badiashile in the starting lineup, and the Spanish defender repaid his manager’s faith by putting in an excellent performance and earning the UEFA man of the match award.

Cucurella displayed his composure and skill on the left side of the defense, much to the pleasure of Potter, who remarked that had the result not gone their way, the consequences could have been severe.

“I’m delighted for him, when you’re having a bad time like we are and we’ve had, you accept the criticism.

“Marc has dealt with it well, we’ve tried to shield him but at the same time, I feel like we picked the right moment tonight regardless of what’s happened.

“I thought with Benoit not available, he just gave us that balance in the back-three with his left foot and he delivered a top performance.”

When asked if the win felt particularly satisfying given the challenges he has experienced lately, such as receiving despicable death threats, Potter demonstrated his true character and class in his response.

“Inevitably in life you’re going to have bad times and you’re going to have good times,” he added.

“I don’t see any other way to think about it. It’s about how you react in the bad times and it’s about how you deal with those situations.

“You have to find some perspective and analyse it in the correct way. Things are never bad forever, thankfully. Although sometimes it does feel that way.”

Throughout the game, Graham Potter was visibly animated on the touchline and expressed his emotions freely when Chelsea scored. It was evident that the match held significant personal meaning for him.

Following this victory, Chelsea will face Leicester in the Premier League on Saturday, hoping to improve their domestic form and continue their positive momentum ahead of the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
