Graham Potter could finally ditch Mount in Chelsea swoop for “powerful” £129m “superstar”

Graham Potter, the manager of Chelsea, has identified one of the sport’s most heralded players as a prospective replacement for a present player who is garnering interest from Italy. Potter has a voracious appetite for the club’s future.

Mason Mount has been a fan favorite at Stamford Bridge; a lifelong Blue, he has been an indispensable cog in the wheel since his ascent to the first team several years ago.

However, with contract negotiations on hold, Mount is being closely monitored by Italian powerhouse Juventus, with Calciomercatoweb stating that Old Lady manager Massimiliano Allegri is willing to move up to three players to make place for the English star.

Chelsea would be reluctant to go with their ace, who has already proven important to the club by winning the Champions League in 2020/21, but his departure might usher in a transaction of truly seismic proportions.

Mount would undoubtedly command a hefty transfer price, and while many within Chelsea would be dismayed to see their top player leave, his departure might move focus to the signing of Jude Bellingham, with confidence in the completion of the deal likely to improve significantly.

Bellingham, who is still only 19 years old, is valued at £129m and has become one of football’s most outstanding young prospects, having been dubbed a “prodigy” and playing with the poise and leadership of a seasoned, established midfield juggernaut at the top of the game.

Bellingham, described as “powerful” and a “superstar” by Premier League icon Roy Keane, has recently attracted the attention of Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Real Madrid.

However, despite interest from the most prestigious clubs in the world, Chelsea may believe they have the upper hand if Mount decides to go, since the huge transfer fee and Mount’s newly-acquired position in the team are indicators that a transaction will be finalized.

Moreover, according to rumors from South America, Liverpool has agreed to sign Argentina’s 21-year-old World Cup sensation Enzo Fernandez beginning in the summer of 2023, leaving the door wide open.

Mount, who is considered by many as a natural leader and a potential future club captain, could leave Chelsea, but his 32 goals and 37 assists across 181 games have been essential to the Blues’ success over the previous several years.

And FBref ranks him among the top 19% of midfielders for assists, the top 15% for progressive passes received, and the top 11% for tackles, across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year, and his robust presence at the beating heart of the Chelsea project will need to be carefully evaluated if the club decides to part ways with him.

Mount’s England teammate in Bellingham would be an ideal substitute, as he ranks in the top 14% for assists, the top 6% for progressive pass receptions, and the top 35% for tackles.
