‘Gobsmacked’: Kalvin Phillips has noticed something ‘very different’ about Manchester City and Leeds.
Manchester City’s YouTube channel posted a behind-the-scenes footage of Kalvin Phillips’ first day as a City player, and it was surely entertaining to watch.
We saw Phillips’ travel to Manchester, the signing of the contracts, and the midfielder’s reactions as he saw City’s cutting-edge training facilities in the video.
The Yorkshire Pirlo enjoyed his time at Leeds, but it didn’t take long for him to notice how different the facilities at City were.
In reality, Phillips stated to a member of staff in the film that he was gobsmacked by the quality of City’s facilities after touring the pool, canteen, and dressing rooms.
“It’s mental, this is totally different to what I have been used to, yeah, really different, very different,” Phillips said.
Another member of staff then asked Phillips if he was enjoying his trip.
“Yeah, it’s a lot different to what I’m used to to be honest, I’m just gobsmacked,” Phillips replied.
This is the kind of stuff that distinguishes Manchester City from Leeds United.
City have a multi-million pound training facility with the best facilities money can buy, whilst Leeds are operating at an outmoded Thorp Arch after plans for a new training ground at the former Matthew Murray High School site fell through.
City, of course, have a financial advantage over almost every club in the world, but they’re not just spending that money on players; they’re investing in their facilities, and it’s paying off, as Phillips’ reaction indicates.
