Giorgio Chiellini reacts when asked if he would sign for Conte’s Tottenham
Giorgio Chiellini was asked this week if he would join Tottenham Hotspur to play for Antonio Conte.
During Conte’s time at Juventus and Italy, the two Italians partnered up. Chiellini won three Serie A titles and four Super Cups while playing 100 games for the now-Spurs manager in Turin.
Chiellini parted ways with Juventus at the end of last season and relocated to Los Angeles.
He now plays for LAFC in the MLS, where the club’s head coach, Steve Cherundolo, describes him as a “world-class defender.”
Chiellini was asked about Conte in an interview this week.
He was asked if he would return to Europe to play for Tottenham just so he could work under the 53-year-old again.
The legendary Italian quickly declared that he is no longer fit for the Premier League.
Chiellini said, as quoted by Il Bianconero: “Not as a player, at 36, I couldn’t do it.
“When I saw the exhausted players in South Korea during pre-season, I wrote to Paratici. It reminded me that we went through the same thing.”
The Italian turned defending into an art form, and his partnership with Leonardo Bonucci was nothing short of spectacular for both Juventus and the Italian national team.
Chiellini may not have the legs for the Premier League anymore, but he certainly has what it takes to become a coach after he retires from playing.
If Conte is still at Tottenham at that point, bringing Chiellini in to coach some of the club’s defenders could be a brilliant move.
