Gary Neville now discloses what insider told him when City sold Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal

Gary Neville reveals what a Manchester City insider told him about Julian Alvarez and Gabriel Jesus.

Last summer, City sold Jesus to Arsenal and Raheem Sterling to Chelsea, replacing them with Alvarez and Erling Haaland.

The Premier League has been dominated by Haaland, but Alvarez will lead the line for Argentina in the World Cup final on Sunday.

On his podcast, Neville reveals what he was told at the time on the summertime decisions made by City’s attack.

He said: “I was told a year ago when City let Jesus and Sterling go – because I was quite surprised that City let both go at the same time – that this kid (Alvarez) was the reason.

“Someone said that to me, that is quite close to City, that he was the reason and they didn’t want to block his path.”

Alvarez might potentially return to City as a World Cup champion, having experienced the tournament in Qatar very differently than Jesus.

He just played once for Brazil, in a meaningless match against Cameroon, before suffering an injury that requires surgery and will keep him out for months.

Eddie Nketiah is now expected to lead Arsenal’s title challenge versus City.

At City, Haaland is the starter, but if something happened to him for an extended period, they could bring in Alvarez, who, based on his performance at the World Cup, would not be a terrible backup.
