Gabriel Jesus waiting in the Arsenal tunnel speaks a lot about Mikel Arteta’s team

On Sunday, Eddie Nketiah appeared to be the happiest man on earth as he exited the field to chants of “Eddie, Eddie” emanating from a jubilant Emirates Stadium.

The forward, who scored a brace and the game-winning goal in stoppage time for Arsenal against Manchester United, was the last player to leave the field because he wanted to savor the moment.

Concerns have been raised about Nketiah’s ability to replace £50 million summer signing Gabriel Jesus, who had been leading the line for Arsenal in their pursuit of their first Premier League title in 19 years prior to his injury.

Nketiah silenced his critics in one of Arsenal’s toughest tests to date this season with the game-winning goal and the Gunners’ first-half opener, which cancelled out Marcus Rashford’s goal.

Jesus, who was spotted on the field celebrating the victory with his Arsenal teammates at game’s end, has apparently never doubted Nketiah.

And the Brazilian made a point of waiting for Nketiah, who is now technically his rival for a spot on the first team, and congratulating him on his performance.

It speaks volumes about the spirit of this Arsenal team, which is the favorite to win the championship.

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta was also pleased with the result, which puts his team five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League with a game in hand.

He told Sky Sports: “Mentally and emotionally we were really composed and really determined at the same time. We managed the moments in the game really well.

“We never panicked, we kept believing and doing the same things, even better than before and we always believed we could win it.

“Emotional, a lot of passion and a lot of quality, it doesn’t get much better than that.

“After the derby to come here against this team and play the way we did and the performance, especially in the second half and to win in that way was incredible.”
