Gabriel Jesus makes Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta comparison after sealing £45m Arsenal move

Gabriel Jesus, Arsenal’s newest signing, has highlighted the influence Pep Guardiola had on the Brazilian’s £45 million move to the Emirates.

Jesus is presently training with his new colleagues as part of Arsenal’s four-day training camp in Germany before facing Bundesliga 2. side Nurnberg in a friendly on Friday, July 8 at the 50,000-capacity Max-Morlock Stadion.

The Brazilian striker is Mikel Arteta and Edu’s fourth signing of the summer, joining Matt Turner, Marquinhos, and Fabio Vieira.

So far this summer, Arsenal has been connected with deals for Youri Tielemans, Lisandro Martinez, and Alejandro Grimaldo, with more arrivals expected before the transfer deadline.

In his first external interview since joining Arsenal, Jesus compared Arteta and Guardiola’s tactics, stating that he ‘trusts’ the Arsenal manager.

The 25-year-old said: “I was pretty sure I would come to Arsenal, but after I talked to Mikel, I was 100 per cent sure.

“I trust in him. I trust in this big club, I trust in myself, and the players as well.”

The Brazilian attacker scored 95 goals in 233 appearances for Manchester City but left after five years to pursue a new challenge and regular first-team play elsewhere.

The arrival of Erling Haaland and his refusal to sign a new contract with City enabled the Gunners to bring Jesus to north London, where the 25-year-old will prepare to spearhead the Arsenal attack.

“I have already worked with Mikel, so I I know his ideas a little bit. I know the way he wants to play. I think it is quite similar to Pep Guardiola and I think that fits well. I’ve come to try to help the guys and I’ll try to learn with them as well,” Jesus continued.

Arteta worked as a member of Guardiola’s coaching team at City for three years before being named Unai Emery’s replacement at the Emirates.

Both managers have ties to Barcelona, and it’s evident from the way both teams play that their ideologies and methods are similar.

Jesus is poised to make his debut for the Gunners against Nurnberg on Friday. The Brazilian also mentioned how at ease he is at the club, describing the culture as a “big family.”

“I am so happy with the group. It was good to see everyone when I joined the club for the first day,” the Brazilian added.

“It is a big family here. We are going to play well, train well and at the end of the season, I am pretty sure, we are going to win something.”
