Gabriel Jesus cheekily snubs Tottenham when addressing Arsenal’s Premier League title rivals

Gabriel Jesus cheekily snubs Tottenham when addressing Arsenal’s Premier League title rivals

After the first few gameweeks, Tottenham Hotspur were within striking distance of both Arsenal and Manchester City.

In contrast, they have lost contact with the Gunners and the Cityzens over the course of two weeks. Before this weekend’s thrilling 4-3 league victory against Leeds United, Spurs had lost three of our previous four league games.

This includes demoralizing defeats to Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Liverpool. Gabriel Jesus, who won four Premier League titles with Manchester City, is familiar with league championships.

This summer, he transferred to Arsenal as Pep Guardiola brought in Erling Haaland to lead the line and Julian Alvarez as his backup. Jesus has scored five goals and provided seven assists in 20 appearances for his new team across all competitions.

His team leads the league with 37 points after 14 matches, five more than Manchester City and eight more thanDSpurs. Additionally,  Conte team have played one more game than the top two teams.

After his team’s 2-0 win against Wolves, the former Palmeiras striker stated (via the Express) about Arsenal’s possible title rivals:

“We cannot look to others. We know Man City , obviously I know them more than most of the people. But we have to do our job… It is not only Man City – it is Liverpool, Man United, Chelsea. What can we do? Just focus on ourselves that is all.”

These remarks should serve as motivation for Antonio Conte’s squad. Spurs are now ahead of Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool in the Premier League standings.

Given Arsenal and Tottenham’s intense rivalry, it may have been purposeful. The last time the Lilywhites won the league was during the 1960-1961 season, which does not help their cause.

The distance between Arsenal and Tottenham is narrowable. However, their  performances against Manchester United and Arsenal were particularly eye-opening. Perhaps they  are not currently title contenders, but Jesus should have known better than to list three teams behind Tottenham as Arsenal’s title competitors.
