France FIFA World Cup blow as Tchouameni, Upamecano miss training

France FIFA World Cup blow as Tchouameni, Upamecano miss training

Aurelien Tchouameni and Dayot Upamecano were absent from training on Monday as the reigning champions prepared for Wednesday’s FIFA World Cup showdown against Morocco.

The French federation did not comment on their absence, but the sports newspaper L’Equipe reported that Upamecano had a sore throat and Tchouameni had a knock.

Tchouameni, a 22-year-old midfielder, is now playing for Real Madrid after joining the La Liga club in June. He grew up at the Bordeaux youth academy and began his senior club debut with the club in 2018. In the Europa League, he scored for the first time against Maruipol.

He moved on to AS Monaco, lasting in Ligue 1 until last year, becoming an important pivot for the French team.

When he transferred to Los Blancos for reportedly 100 million euros, he made headlines for becoming one of the most impressive adolescents in the transfer market. So far, he has continued to perform well under the management of Carlos Ancelotti.

Paul Pogba and N’golo Kante, two of France’s most significant midfielders, weren’t selected for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. This position has been occupied and enjoyed by Tchouameni, who has started every World Cup match for France to date.
