Four players Todd Boehly could sign for Chelsea before 11pm transfer deadline

Chelsea will be determined to end the summer transfer window on a good note after suffering multiple market failures in recent months.

Thomas Tuchel has made no secret of his desire to add to his squad before Thursday’s rapidly approaching deadline, and the Blues might yet finalize a number of transactions.

Before Tuesday’s Premier League match between Chelsea and Southampton, which the west London team ultimately lost 2-1, Tuchel stated: “Right now I think we could need some more players in some positions. It’s very close to the end of the transfer window and when 1 September comes I will be a happy coach no matter what happens. I will try to find solutions and not think about what might have happened or what could be.”

Despite missing out on a number of key targets, the Blues were able to sign Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cururella, and most recently Wesley Fofana this summer.

After allowing Romelu Lukaku to return to Inter Milan on loan and Timo Werner to return to RB Leipzig on a permanent basis, Tuchel’s first objective before Thursday’s deadline is to add to his assault.

After losing both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen at the beginning of the summer, the Blues manager has only signed two of the three centre-backs he was seeking to acquire. Therefore, a defensive reinforcement is still required in the closing few hours of the transfer window.

In light of this information, SportsDias examines who Chelsea could recruit on what is expected to be a hectic deadline day for the west London club.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Chelsea has made no secret of the fact that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remains their top offensive target, having attempted to sign the former Arsenal striker in recent weeks.

Now that a deal for Everton’s Anthony Gordon is dead in the water, the Blues’ need to acquire the 33-year-old has become much more urgent.

While it is believed that Aubameyang is open to joining Chelsea after speaking with his former Borussia Dortmund manager Tuchel, the Blues face a race against time to reach an agreement with Barcelona for the forward.

The cash-strapped Catalan club is believed to have rejected Chelsea’s last offer of roughly £13 million plus Marcus Alonso in exchange for Aubameyang, but with the Spanish giants still needing to rebalance their books, the Blues will be hoping for a late agreement.

Josko Gvardiol

Tuchel stated earlier in the summer that he planned to add three new central defenders to his roster after losing Rudiger and Christensen on free transfers to Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively.

Since then, Koulibaly and Fofana have been recruited, but the Blues’ manager remains eager on getting a third defender.

The most likely candidate looks to be RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, with Chelsea reportedly in negotiations with the Bundesliga club over a £77.4 million deal to acquire the Croatian.

There is a good chance a deal will be reached by 11 p.m. on Thursday, but it appears the Blues may have to wait until the summer of 2019 to acquire the 20-year-old, as Leipzig is attempting to keep Gvardiol on loan for the remainder of the season.

Frenkie de Jong

Chelsea look eager to bolster their midfield before the transfer market closes and continue to indicate an interest in signing Frenkie de Jong.

Barcelona has publicly expressed a desire to sell the Dutch midfielder this summer as they continue to realign their finances.

While Manchester United appears to have surrendered defeat in their pursuit of the 25-year-old, it appears that Chelsea remain confident about signing the midfield maestro.

With Chelsea able to satisfy De Jong’s desire for Champions League action this season and Barcelona likely to be enticed into raising much-needed funds late in the transfer window, there’s a good chance that the Netherlands international could complete a move to Stamford Bridge on Thursday and see his future resolved.

Wilfried Zaha

According to reports, Chelsea’s dreams of signing Everton’s Gordon before Thursday’s transfer deadline have been dashed, and they may now pursue Wilfried Zaha, the star player for Crystal Palace.

The Blues are believed to have rekindled their interest in the Eagles star within the past week and identified him as a potential Gordon replacement.

Despite reports that a late move for Zaha to Chelsea is ‘unlikely,’ anything may occur on transfer deadline day.

As the Ivory Coast international has entered the final year of his contract and Thursday is likely to be one of the Eagles’ final opportunities to cash in on their club hero, they may be tempted by a late offer from the Blues.
