Former Man City player admits he NEVER watches Man City play, claiming it is a ‘waste of energy’
Liverpool vice-captain James Milner has claimed that he does not watch Manchester City play because it is a “waste of energy.”
The two teams are neck and neck heading into the final week of the season, with City three points ahead of quadruple-chasing Liverpool – who face Chelsea in the FA Cup final today – with two games remaining.
However, in an interview with The Athletic, the 36-year-old – who won two titles at the Etihad – insisted that he never watches Pep Guardiola’s squad play and spoke extensively about pushing his way into Jurgen Klopp’s midfield plans at Anfield.
“I never, ever watch their games,” he says. “It was the same when I was at City and it was going down to the wire.
“You sit there, so tense, hoping, a waste of energy. I can’t do anything about it.”
Speaking regarding his first season or two under Klopp, he said: “I had a season at left-back.
“Looking back now, I don’t know whether the manager thought I was going to be here or whether he thought I’d be phased out — I was probably at the back of the queue — but I managed to find my way back in.
“You have spells like that at every club, where it’s make-or-break. That’s a proud time for me because I managed to fight my way back into midfield and I’m still here now.”
Milner has appeared in 22 Premier League games this season as Liverpool seeks their second title in three years.
With Fabinho sidelined, Milner might fill in at Wembley today or at Southampton on Tuesday as Klopp attempts to manage his team for the next few games of the season.
