Former Liverpool player requests two January signings including Enzo Fernandez as Christmas gift

Ryan McLaughlin, a graduate of the Liverpool academy, hopes to be on Santa’s nice list this year so he may be spoiled for Christmas. The 28-year-old defender has requested that Jurgen Klopp bring in two of Europe’s top talents in 2023.

As two of the continent’s top midfielders of the next decade, Jude Bellingham and Enzo Fernandez are set to be at the center of two of next year’s major transfer sagas.

The 19-year-old Bellingham is expected to leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer, with Liverpool favored to sign him in a move worth over £100 million.

Fernandez, who joined Benfica from River Plate this year, is a relatively recent addition to the elite midfielder scene.

The 21-year-old, whose release clause is £105 million, shone in the group stage of the Champions League, and FIFA awarded him the Best Young Player at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

And on Thursday night, McLaughlin took to Twitter, ostensibly to give a portion of his Christmas wish list to Santa, requesting that the Reds get two of Europe’s most dynamic midfielders by fending off competition. He posted on Twitter: “Enzo Fernandes and Jude Bellingham to Liverpool for Christmas, please.”

Given that Liverpool’s owners FSG are planning to sell the club in 2023, it is reasonable to wonder if they will invest considerably in Klopp’s team during the following two transfer windows.

The Reds’ current condition makes it unlikely that they would approve a nine-figure contract for Bellingham, let alone Fernandez as well.

Bellingham’s years of excellence at Dortmund have made him the most sought-after player in 2023, with Manchester City, Manchester United, and Real Madrid prepared to compete with Liverpool for his talents.

Given that he is only in his first season on the continent, the pursuit of Fernandez may be less aggressive.
