Former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich hit with Fordstam threat after takeover
Fordstam Limited, an enterprise once possessed by Roman Abramovich, the former proprietor of Chelsea, will soon be served with a mandatory dissolution notice on June 6. It is worth noting that from July 2003 to August 2009, the company operated under the name Chelsea Limited.
Despite the fact that the registered address of the company still corresponds to Stamford Bridge, their most recent financial statements were filed in 2021.
However, the company has not submitted any filings to the registrar since providing information prior to Chelsea’s acquisition by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital in May 2022.
The First Gazette Notice to be published on Tuesday said: “The Registrar of Companies gives notice that unless cause is shown to the contrary, the Company will be struck off the register and dissolve not less than 2 months from the date shown above. Upon the Company’s dissolution, all property and rights vested in, or held in trust for, the Company are deemed to be bona vacantia, and will belong to the Crown.”
Roman Abramovich continues to be under financial sanctions imposed by the United Kingdom government, as he was included in the list of sanctioned individuals in March 2022. The UK government’s reasoning for this action is that Abramovich is associated with Vladimir Putin, Alisher Usmanov, and benefits from their support through his ownership of Evraz plc and its subsidiaries.
According to a report by The Times, an amount of £2.35 billion from the takeover fee, which was intended to establish a foundation to assist victims of the war in Ukraine, is still held in a frozen bank account belonging to Fordstam. These funds were placed in the frozen account to prevent Abramovich from receiving any proceeds from the sale.
“We’re ready to go and we’re just waiting for approval,’ said Mike Penrose in April, who is the acting CEO of the foundation.
“There are complexities and delays based around political approval both between the UK and the EU and within the UK.
“We aren’t going to make any decisions until we know the money’s coming We don’t want to end up with a charity but no money.”
