Fernandinho reveals why he likes Man City’s questionable new third kit as fans brand it “terrible” and “one of the worst football kits ever”.
It’s reliable to assume Manchester City’s new third kit hasn’t gone down well with fans, with many dubbing it ‘the worst kit of all time.’
Puma has taken a different approach with the new jersey, which City will wear on occasions on their travels during the 2021/22 season, by not predominantly featuring the club’s crest on its front.
Instead, the club’s name, shortened to ‘Man City’, is emblazed in bold text across the chest of the navy blue shirt in sky blue.
The badge is subtly and repeatedly stamped into the fabric all over the front of the shirt, but the badge in its usual colour form is only present on the back of the neck.
There aren’t many City supporters who like the new design but club captain Fernandinho has leapt to its defence with some sound logic.
“I wanted something different, and we definitely got that, I really like the design because the badge may change over time, but the name will live on forever”, Fernandinho said.
Senior Head of Design Manager Teamsport at Puma, Carl Tuffley, has revealed the thinking that went into the design and how the company wanted to take a risk to make something new.

“Our aim was to challenge traditional football jersey design,” he said. “We wanted to look at the Manchester City Third kit through a new lens and push the boundaries as far as possible.
“It is easy to play safe, but we want to change perceptions of a conventional football jersey.
“The Third kit presented an opportunity to be bold, so we wanted to reenergize these jerseys and take a new direction.”
However, Fans are not impressed with the quirky design, taking to Twitter to brand it “terrible” and “one of the worst football kits ever”.
One user quipped: “Looks like it should be in the discount section of Sports Direct”.
Another commented: “Hilariously terrible. lmfaoooo”.
A third put: “Looks like a £3 t-shirt from a market stall.”
A fourth wrote: “That’s got to be up there with one of the worst football kits ever, surely?”
Another joked sarcastically: “Yeah let’s write Man city at the front so they don’t forget we are Man city.”
While one simple said: “This is terrible.”
City are well aware that their third kit is a unique one, accompanying photos of it with the caption: “Dare to be different”.
