Fans to welcome new signing as star flies in to Complete Chelsea medical – announcement imminent
Reece James suffered a serious injury early in the season that has sidelined him for a considerable amount of time and prevented him from performing well for England at the World Cup.
His setback has prompted Graham Potter to add another right-sided defender to the roster, despite the fact that he may be recovering and returning to action shortly.
And this has led to constant speculation in the media that Gusto is a player Chelsea is very interested in signing. Chelsea have already signed six players this window, and they appear to be close to making a seventh.
They were always going to strengthen the squad in areas where it was lacking this month, and they are possibly two new signings away from achieving that goal – a new midfielder and a new right back.
According to reports, Chelsea and Lyon have reached a transfer agreement for Malo Gusto.
French news outlet RMC Sport is the first to report that despite the agreement, the player is not yet moving to England.
According to the report, Gusto is traveling to sign with Chelsea, but will be loaned back to Lyon until the end of the season.
Fabrice Hawkins, a reporter for RMC Sport, asserts that the cost of this deal to the Blues has not yet been “filtered” despite recent rumors to the contrary.
The transfer is a mixed bag for Lyon fans, as club president Jean-Michel Aulas insisted earlier this week that the player would remain at least until the summer.
However, he will then depart.
Aulas intended to “make it clear” that he would remain with the club, and he was technically correct.
According to reports from France, Chelsea reportedly offered over €20 million for the transfer while Lyon demanded €30 million. However, it seems only a matter of time before we learn how much that has truly cost.
