Fabrizio Romano says United are leading race to sign spectacular Championship striker
Manchester United are one of the frontrunners in the hunt to recruit Derby County’s explosive forward, Malcolm Ebiowei, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Last season, the young 18-year-old made 16 appearances for the Rams, scoring one goal and assisting on two others.
His Championship outings have so far been limited to the right wing, but he is also capable of playing as a striker.
In the Under 18 Premier League, the left-footer has been prolific. In that campaign, the England youth international scored seven goals and assisted once.
This morning, Romano reported that Ebiowei could be on his way to Old Trafford.
“Manchester United and Crystal Palace are leading the race to sign Derby County’s Malcolm Ebiowei, talented striker born in 2003,” the guru tweeted.
“AS Monaco asked for him too but he’s expected to stay in Premier League – Man Utd and Palace are leading the race.”
This scouting video of Ebiowei, who has Dutch nationality and played for the Netherlands Under 15s before moving to England, demonstrates his amazing power and range of talents.
Derby boss and Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney talks highly of the youthful forward.
“He has got an enormous amount of ability. He’s brave; he’s not afraid to take players on, get tackled, and make mistakes,” Rooney said in March (via The Athletic).
“His attitude is incredible, and he’s an exciting young player.”
This could be one of United’s first and most astute pieces of transfer business this summer.
