Fabrizio Romano says ‘special’ player now expecting Arsenal to come and sign him this summer
Despite the fact that the saga has slowed in recent weeks, Youri Tielemans still hopes to join Arsenal this summer.
Fabrizio Romano has informed Caught Offside that Arsenal’s recent attention on other transfers has not impacted their interest in the Belgian.
He still believes he will be a Gunners player at the end of the season, but there appears to be increased interest in his services.
Leicester will wait to see how much money they receive from the sale of Tielemans before entering the market for his successor.
Romano wrote: Arsenal are still in for Youri Tielemans…but they need to act fast.
“Even though this particular saga has gone a little quieter in recent weeks, Arsenal have never changed their interest in signing Youri Tielemans. The Belgian midfielder has always been on the list, but no official bid has been submitted so far.
“From the player’s perspective, he still expects this move, but Arsenal will have to be quick as other clubs have been inquiring about Tielemans in the last few days.
“Certainly, Leicester would sign a replacement but so far they are waiting to understand how much they would receive as final fee from Tielemans deal. He’s in the final year of his contract, so there could still be some back and forth here as clubs won’t want to pay over the odds for someone who will be a free agent in a year’s time.”
Former Leicester captain Wes Morgan rated Tielemans as “exceptional,” saying, “Youri is a special player.”
“The amount of work he does, off the field and in the gym and the hours he puts in is the reason why he is producing these magical moments.
“He is always the type of player to be doing extra shooting practice at the end of the game. If you keep working hard like that, then it pays off.
“Now you see the best of him. He wants to add goals to his game. Add assists to his game and he is producing that on a weekly basis.”
