Fabrizio Romano reacts to ‘slightly surprising’ discussion of who Arsenal could reportedly sign

The transfer of Nicolo Zaniolo to Arsenal is not as far along as was rumored over the weekend.

The Gunners have contacted Roma Giallorossa, as reported by HITC Sport on Saturday, about bringing the 23-year-old to the Emirates Stadium.

Zaniolo has been frequently linked to Arsenal in recent weeks, but is there any truth to the rumors?

According to Fabrizio Romano, nope.

This ‘slightly surprise’ rumor is false, according to a reputable Italian writer, who claims that Arsenal is not in talks with Roma about the possibility of signing him.

He told Caught Offside: “I’m aware there’s been some speculation about Nicolo Zaniolo again, and it’s a slightly surprising story as there are no negotiations between Arsenal and Zaniolo as of now.”

Romano is correct; it is unexpected in the sense that it is unlikely to occur.

The Italy international is an attacking midfielder by trade, but Mikel Arteta already has players like Martin Odegaard and Fabio Vieira.

Simply put, there is no rationale for Arsenal to pursue this, unless, of course, the Spanish manager intended to play him on the wing.

There is no denying that the Gunners need a winger, but Zaniolo is not a primary winger, therefore this is unlikely to occur.
