Fabrizio Romano issues huge update about ‘ongoing’ Erik ten Hag to Manchester United
Manchester United fans are eagerly awaiting word from the club on who will be the club’s new manager.
The delay might last until the conclusion of the season, with United attempting to keep the hiring process as internal as possible.
Fabrizio Romano presented an update as he knows the situation on his s Here We Go Podcast on Tuesday.
Romano said: “Contacts are ongoing. Man United are working to make their final decision. All the contacts with Erik ten Hag are very positive.
“He is well informed on everything into the club, like the potential budget, like kind of signings they want to do, so Erik ten Hag is keeping information on Man United every week and he is thinking about it, but he knows that Pochettino is still in the race.”
Ten Hag is not placing all of his eggs in one basket because Manchester United is not yet fully committed to him.
He is aware that Pochettino, the guy who knocked his Ajax side out of the Champions League in 2019, is a strong alternative.
If Ten Hag decides to stay, Ajax will be keen for him to do so, so he will not be without a club.
According to the Mail, Ten Hag has spoken with two additional European clubs ‘that play regularly in the Champions League’, although their identity remains a mystery.
There is an element of this in which neither party wants to be rejected by the other and feels obligated to investigate all choices, and with Ajax’s season still in progress, Ten Hag can only dedicate so much time to planning for his future.
In an interview with Sport1 last week, Ten Hag said: “Manchester United is a great club with great fans. But I can only repeat myself: My full focus is completely on Ajax! We are already planning for the new season.
“I’ve sat down with Ajax after every season so far. That will also be the case this time. I can say that Ajax and Erik ten Hag are very happy with each other at the moment.”
Ten Hag will be wary of saying anything that may enrage Ajax fans or Dutch experts and jeopardize their title bid.
That would be a disappointing way to go out, therefore he must proceed with caution.
United’s process is still ‘ongoing,’ and while no official announcement is expected until mid-May, the club must make a decision and commit sooner or later, or else one of Ten Hag or Pochettino will become tired of the ambiguity and commit, or, in the worst-case scenario, both.
