Fabrizio Romano issues Chelsea transfer update over £164m defensive pair
Chelsea is competing to sign Antonio Silva and Josko Gvardol, two UEFA Champions League stars and respective goal scorers.
According to esteemed journalist Fabrizio Romano, who provided the update via Twitter, the pair would cost a total of £164 million.
On Tuesday night, Gvardiol (£77m) scored in RB Leipzig’s 3-2 victory over Real Madrid, while Benfica defender Silva (£87m) scored in his side’s 4-3 victory over Serie A giants Juventus.
The transfer expert seized this chance to provide an update on the two players linked to Chelsea.
Taking to his personal Twitter page, Romano said: “Antonio Silva, born in 2003. Joško Gvardiol, born in 2002. Centre backs of the future scoring in Champions League.”
“Chelsea are still following Gvardiol after bid turned down in August — open race for Antonio Silva as many top clubs are already tracking him.”
Silva, who is only 18 years old, and Gvardiol, who is two years his older, are both in their respective club’s first-team plans at such a young age, making it evident that they both have bright careers ahead of them.
Both players excel in possession, with Silva recording an astounding average of 7.0 long balls per 90 minutes with a decent success rate of 67%, and Gvardiol topping the Bundesliga’s passing records with an average of 76.9 accurate passes per 90 minutes with a success rate of 89.1%.
These two promising young defenders would be an ideal fit for Todd Boehly’s “top talents” plan, and Chelsea would do well to acquire one of them.
