Tottenham Hotspur’s managing director Fabio Paratici has temporarily stepped down from his position while he appeals against his global football ban.

This comes after a challenging week for the club, which began with the dismissal of manager Antonio Conte.

On Tuesday, Paratici used the club’s media channels to provide updates on the search for a new manager.

However, within a day, his 30-month ban for alleged financial misconduct at his previous club, Juventus, was extended globally. The initial ban had only applied to his football activities in Italy, as it was given by the Italian FA.

However, in a statement released on Wednesday, FIFA said: “FIFA can confirm that following a request by the Italian FA (FIGC), the chairperson of FIFA disciplinary committee has decided to extend the sanctions imposed by FIGC on several football officials to have worldwide effect.”

Tottenham issued a statement in response, stating that they were not informed beforehand of FIFA’s decision and are now seeking further clarification from FIFA.

They have now given an additional update that Paratici will temporarily step back from his responsibilities while they appeal the decision.

According to the club’s statement, the FIFA disciplinary committee decided to extend the Italian Football Federation’s sanctions against Fabio Paratici globally, which was announced on March 29, 2023.

“This decision was taken in advance of Fabio Paratici’s appeal hearing against the FIGC sanctions on 19 April 2023, the result of which would then have been considered by additional stakeholders, including the club.

“Given FIFA’s unexpected ruling the sanctions may now have multi-jurisdictional effect, although they are still related to the FIGC appeal.

“In view of FIFA’s decision, Fabio has agreed with the club that he will take an immediate leave of absence pending the outcome of his appeal.”

At present, Tottenham’s temporary manager Cristian Stellini is getting his team ready for their upcoming Premier League match against Everton, which will take place on Monday.

Although Spurs are currently in fourth place in the Premier League standings, they could slip out of the Champions League spots if Manchester United lose to Newcastle United on Sunday.
