Exclusive: “Chelsea are on it” – Fabrizio Romano issues update on major Blues transfer rumor
Fabrizio Romano has discussed RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku and the latest Chelsea transfer drama in his special CaughtOffside piece.
Since Romano announced that the Blues were the frontrunners to capture Nkunku from Leipzig in a deal scheduled for next summer, Blues supporters have been naturally eager for further information.
However, according to Romano, not much has changed since then, as Chelsea are still working to finalize the deal’s terms.
Responding to Chelsea fans asking for more news on Nkunku, Romano said: “I know Chelsea fans are keen to hear an update on Christopher Nkunku, but the situation is still the same: Chelsea are working on it on both player and club side with RB Leipzig and the next step has to be the contracts signing to consider the deal done.
“It’s a work in progress, and Chelsea are on it.”
Nkunku has been a world-class performer in the Bundesliga, and he appears to be a perfect fit for Chelsea’s needs at the moment, as they remain somewhat light up front.
The addition of Romelu Lukaku did not pan out, and other attacking players such as Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, and Hakim Ziyech have all been unsuccessful.
Due to his age, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is unlikely to be a long-term option for CFC. He has performed well since signing from Barcelona in the summer.
If Chelsea can get Nkunku to Stamford Bridge next summer, it could be one of their best acquisitions.
