‘Exactly what Arsenal need’: Ian Wright advises Mikel Arteta to make £510k-a-week signing
Following Cristiano Ronaldo’s match-winning effort for Manchester United this weekend, Ian Wright has stated that Arsenal should have bought a player like him this summer.
Speaking on Premier League Productions (16/04), the Arsenal legend argued that Mikel Arteta’s team are losing out on a talismanic striker capable of turning the flow of games in an instant.
The Gunners suffered their third Premier League defeat in a row this weekend, losing 1-0 to Southampton, while Ronaldo scored a hat-trick to help United upset Norwich City 3-2.
The 37-year-old striker has proved crucial to United’s chances of finishing in the top four, with the Manchester giants moving ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League table courtesy to Ronaldo’s heroics this weekend.
A dearth of world-class attackers has plagued Arsenal in the second part of the season, and Wright believes that a Ronaldo-type signing is exactly what the Gunners need this summer if they are to rebuild their frontline.
Wright said: “He’s got 13 points alone from winning goals that he’s scored for them. That’s what you get at Man United.
“That’s exactly what Arsenal need, because if he wasn’t playing for United they’d be nowhere near where they are. That’s what you pay for and that’s what he’s delivered, he’s amazing.”
Piers Morgan has pushed Arsenal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United this summer, echoing Ian Wright’s call.
Mikel Arteta’s side have lost their last three Premier League games, scoring only one goal — a deflected effort from Martin Odegaard – in that span.
Because Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are out of contract in June, Folarin Balogun may be the Gunners’ only acknowledged striker – and Balogun is only 20 – which sums up the North Londoners’ issue in this regard.
And Arsenal-daft Morgan believes that a summer move for Ronaldo would be a good idea..

I’m deadly serious.
That would solve our striker problem and help me move on from Aubameyang.
I’ve already sorted @Cristiano a shirt. pic.twitter.com/noJsPMygN5
