Ex-Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solksjaer reveals the player he regrets signing at Old Trafford
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is said to regret signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus last summer.
The Norwegian manager led his team to second place in the table in 202-21, finishing five and seven points ahead of both Liverpool and Chelsea.
That summer, they brought in two huge acquisitions in Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, until a late move to buy Cristiano Ronaldo emerged after he appeared to be close to joining rivals Manchester City, a trade the manager is said to have been against.
According to The Express, a source close to the club and The Times, Ole regrets the move, adding that he ‘did not fit’ into what he intended to develop at Old Trafford.
It is possible that this signing harmed the squad’s balance and ultimately lost Solskjaer his job, with him being replaced by Ralf Rangnck through the season.
Juve fans had mixed sentiments about his leaving, with him being the clear top goalscorer for their team in the previous season, although it was also clear that his presence in hampered some players.
That appears to have been the case for CR7 at United as well, with his goals continuing but his team faltering as a result.
