Ex-Liverpool Premier League winner will have a medical today after reaching an agreement on his next move

Georginio Wijnaldum joined PSG after leaving Liverpool as a free agent in 2021, but is set to join AS Roma.

The Dutchman helped the Reds win the Premier League in 2020 and was a key player in the Reds’ Champions League-winning season in 2019.

His absence was felt at times last season, when his presence would have been beneficial when Thiago, Naby Keita, and Harvey Elliott were injured.

Wijnaldum joined Liverpool for a fee of £25 million in 2016, leaving Newcastle United and the Tyne for Liverpool and the Mersey.

According to reports, he is now set to join Roma and is scheduled to undergo a medical with the Italian club today.

According to Roma Press, the Dutch star arrived for his medical after a month of negotiations concluded on a €2M loan with an option to buy for €8M.

This season, PSG will pay a portion of his salary.

Joining Jose Mourinho and playing in Serie A is an exciting move for Wijnaldum, and it should pique the interest of many Liverpool fans.

Liverpool already has a good relationship with Roma, having played them in the Champions League in 2018, following their acquisition of Mohamed Salah in 2017. At the end of that season, Alisson Becker joined the Reds.

In a strange way, it’s a step forward for Wijnaldum.

Obviously, competing for the Champions League and winning Ligue 1 is fantastic, but Serie A is a much better league, and the most important thing is that he will be able to play on a regular basis.

It’s a World Cup year, so the 31-year-old needs to be on the field as much as possible, and Mourinho will get a lot of good football out of him.

Liverpool may have been tempted to sign him, with some reports claiming the Reds considered bringing him back on loan, but making a nostalgic move in the transfer market is never a good idea.
