The past few nights have been terrible. Days filled with uncertainty, it’s been really frightening.
“I am writing this as you are still here with us and a little better – and because in many ways, the fact that you are still here with us, makes us cherish every moment we have together, family and above all, life itself.
“It’s amazing how everything can change from one moment to the next.
“Life can surprise us and test us, instill fear, but with faith, strength, and hope, we can come out of all of the bad moments. I want you to be with me forever, Mark.”
Gonzalez hanged up his boot in 2019. He joined the Reds in 2005 but could not make a debut due to issues regarding his work permit. He was forced to spend a loan spell with the Real Sociedad team and later joined Liverpool after his issues relating to work permit were sorted.
The Chilean made 25 appearances for Liverpool and scored twice. He was part of the Liverpool side that lost the Champions League final to Ac Milan in 2007. However, he was an unused substitute in the 2-1 loss.
Gonzalez was later sold to Spain side Real Betis in a £5m deal. After spending two years at the Spanish club, he joined the Russian team of CSKA Moscow. In 2010, it was reported that he was involved in a rape case but later the authorities retraced their statement in which they announced that the accused was Mario Gonzalez, a Portuguese citizen, who was also a footballer.
