Every team Man City could face in Champions League last 16 as two teams ruled out

Every team Man City could face in Champions League last 16 as two teams ruled out

This week, Manchester City qualified for the final 16 of the UEFA Champions League after drawing 0-0 with Borussia Dortmund.

Riyad Mahrez squandered a glorious opportunity from the penalty spot as the Blues were held to a draw by the Bundesliga club; Pep Guardiola’s side now has a better idea of who they could face in the following round.

After Inter Milan’s triumph on Wednesday, Barcelona became the most recent team to be eliminated from the European competition, as this season continues to produce unexpected outcomes.

Having defeated Sporting Lisbon in the round of 16 last season, it appears that City will again face a more advantageous opponent after claiming first place in Group G.

Here is a closer look at who Guardiola’s squad may currently face, given that certain teams have already advanced.

Due to the fact that the draw will not be made for another two weeks, the Blues have only one game remaining on November 2 against Sevilla at the Etihad. Porto, Inter, and Benfica are City’s prospective opponents, as they are the only remaining runners-up.

Milan or RB Salzburg from Group E, RB Leipzig or Shaktar from Group F, and one of Marseille, Sporting, or Eintracht Frankfurt from Group D might also encounter City on Matchday 6. The final standings for these teams will be determined on Matchday 6.

Liverpool and Tottenham are spared from meeting Guardiola’s team in the round of 16, given they are from the same country.

Similarly, Dortmund will not face last season’s semi-finalists, as they advanced from the same group earlier this week.
