Everton FC Champions League bid remains on track after seeing off Southampton in a 1-0 victory. This win was very crucial to there manager Carlo Ancelotti who views it as a springboard in their quest to bring Champions League football to Goodson Park come next season.
Everton has endured their worst home run, since 1958, with a win over the Saints ending this poor run. The club coach Ancelotti later said for his team to have a chance in competing at European competitions, they needed to improve on their home run with such a performance and victory being crucial in making such a comeback.
Ancelotti noted that his team is very close to the top-four finish but views the season is still long and they have to steak to their goal, which is playing at the Europa League next season. Everton will need a win over West Brom on Thursday to climb up into the top four.

He praised the player terming his performance as nothing extra-ordinary but just the player doing his work. He said the player had a lot of quality and he hopes the player continues with what he is already doing. He also praised his goalkeeper Pickford for his performance, which secured his team and ensured they got all three points.
Southampton misery continues to mount as the Saints have just managed to collect 1 point from the last 9 league matches suffering 8 defeats and one draw in those 9 matches. Despite a strong start in the season, they find themselves in an awkward position. They are just seven points above the bottom three teams. The saints need victories as soon as possible to avoid a fall into the relegation zone.
