Europa League group stage draw: Europa League draw: Who can play who? Key dates, teams involved as Manchester United and Arsenal discover fate

Manchester United and Arsenal will find out who their Europa League group stage opponents will be next week, as the race to Budapest gets underway.

Last season, Eintracht Frankfurt defeated Rangers on penalties to earn a place in the Champions League.

Rangers of Scotland could still join them among Europe’s elite, but first they must get through the play-offs.

If they lose to PSV in the final, they will return to the Europa League and hopefully embark on another cup adventure.

They will be joined by Premier League representatives Manchester United and Arsenal, both of whom had ambitions to play in the Champions League.

West Ham narrowly missed out on a repeat semi-final appearance last season after finishing seventh in the Premier League.

Europa League draw: Date

The draw for this season’s tournament’s group stage will take place on Friday, August 26.

It will begin at 12 p.m. UK time and will take place in Istanbul, Turkey, the site of the 2023 Champions League final.

Europa League: Teams involved

Nantes, Union Saint-Gilloise, and Union Berlin are all making their tournament debuts in the group stage.

There will be 32 teams competing, with 16 confirmed as of this writing, with the rest joining after the qualifying rounds.

  • Manchester United (ENG)
  • Arsenal (ENG)
  • Roma (ITA)
  • Lazio (ITA)
  • Braga (POR)
  • Feyenoord (NED)
  • Rennes (FRA)
  • Real Sociedad (ESP)

  • Real Betis (ESP)
  • Midtjylland (DEN)
  • Union Berlin (GER)
  • Freiburg (GER)

  • Sturm Graz (AUT)
  • Union Saint-Gilloise (BEL)

Europa League draw: Who can play who?

Teams from the same association cannot be drawn into the same group at this stage, as is the case with all UEFA competitions.

As a result, assuming both teams advance, United and Arsenal will not face each other in the Europa League until at least 2023.

Teams may also be separated for political reasons, which will be confirmed prior to the start of the draw.
