Erling Haaland position becomes clear as Pep Guardiola’s criticism slammed.

Pep Guardiola is continuing to tinker with the Manchester City squad ahead of the new Premier League period, which following the end of Euro 2020, is closer than ever.

Several players have left City either provisionally or permanently this summer, with Sergio Aguero’s move to Barcelona the most high-profile of those.

However, arrivals have been hard to come by at the Etihad club, with just four signings made, all in the youth ranks.

There is a thought Guardiola’s side are missing the marquee striker which would shove them in their bid to retain their Premier League crown – but that that may be about to change.

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland ‘can imagine’ playing for Chelsea or Manchester City one day.

But a move is very unlikely this summer, according to Sport 1.

Haaland has been heavily linked with a big-money move away from Dortmund, with City, Chelsea and Real Madrid all charged with interest.

And it seems that he is permitted to an eventual move to the Premier League.

But not just yet, with Jadon Sancho’s impending departure to Manchester United said to have left him feeling sad and not in the mindset to leave.

Meantime, Pep Guardiola’s claims that City cannot manage to bring in a world-class striker have been rubbished by former Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

“At the prices (quoted) we are not going to buy any strikers. It is impossible, we cannot afford it.”

However, Robinson has rubbished any report that City are short on cash.

And says that based on their modern spending, they can sign anyone they want, but realizes they don’t want to pay over the odds carelessly.

“Listen, Man City have got bags of money,” he told Football Insider.

“If the right player becomes available, the money will become available. Don’t think for one minute that Man City haven’t got the money to sign a striker. That’s nonsense.

“But they are not going to want to be held over a barrel for a player who other teams would pay a lot less for.

“You look at Nathan Ake, for example. They paid £40m for him from Bournemouth. No other club would have been held to pay £40m but, unfortunately for them, everyone knows they’ve got money.

“He’s not a £40m player but when City come into the market, other teams know they can get these sorts of fees.”
