Erling Haaland Man City injury update emerges ahead of Brentford clash
Saturday, when Brentford visits the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City is expected to start Erling Haaland, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The Citizens are currently second in the Premier League, but a victory against Brentford would propel them to the top of the table heading into the World Cup break.
Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, disclosed earlier this week that Haaland has not fully recovered from foot ligament damage.
As a result, the forward was an unused substitute in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup third-round victory over Chelsea.
However, this occurred just days after Haaland scored the game-winning penalty for 10-man Manchester City against Fulham after coming off the bench.
The 22-year-old was forced to withdraw from last month’s Champions League group stage match against former club Borussia Dortmund due to a foot injury and a fever he struggled to overcome.
Haaland has not been included in a Premier League starting lineup since Manchester City defeated Brighton & Hove Albion on October 22. This is due to the fact that he has not returned to full fitness.
Jones would be surprised if Haaland is not reinstated to Manchester City’s starting lineup for this weekend’s match against Thomas Frank’s Brentford.
The journalist believes that because Norway failed to qualify for the World Cup, Guardiola will have no qualms about reintroducing the forward.
Jones reported to GIVEMESPORT: “I’d be very surprised if Haaland didn’t start at the weekend.
“Brentford will be hoping that he’s given an even longer rest, but it feels like a game in which they’ll just let him off the leash.
“Unless there’s a new problem between now and the weekend, I think that’ll probably be the case.”
If Haaland is passed fit, there is no doubt that the Brentford backline will face a difficult afternoon. Haaland has been in sensational form since completing his £51 million summer transfer from Dortmund, and there is no doubt that the Brentford defense will face a difficult afternoon if he plays.
In 17 appearances, he has scored 23 goals and added three assists, registering three hat-tricks along the way.
It has been nearly impossible for Premier League defenders to keep Haaland quiet, as he scores every 53 minutes and unleashes 4.3 shots per game.
The former Red Bull Salzburg player has been Manchester City’s top performer this season, averaging an 8.2 match rating, so it is obvious that his return to the starting lineup would be a major boost.
Haaland has made 199 appearances for his senior club, so a match against Brentford would mark a milestone in his career.
