Manchester United and Chelsea are keeping an eye on Robert Sanchez, the goalkeeper for Brighton.

This week, the No. 1 goalkeeper for the Seagulls has been selected ahead of David De Gea for Luis Enrique’s Spain squad that will travel to the World Cup. He has been in outstanding form on the south coast during the entire season.

Sanchez is among the goalkeepers being evaluated by Erik ten Hag’s scouting department at Old Trafford, as David de Gea’s contract with Manchester United enters its last months.

United can prolong De Gea’s tenure in Manchester, although Sanchez, 24, is viewed as a potential long-term replacement.

Graham Potter, the manager of Chelsea who handed Sanchez his debut at Brighton, is also a big fan of the Spaniard.

Potter has employed both Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, and it remains to be seen whether he believes either goalkeeper is capable of playing the type of game he is attempting to install in south west London.

United is also interested in the Benfica youth Antonio Silva.

The 19-year-old has been selected for Portugal’s World Cup team, and it is believed that both Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes have praised him around Old Trafford.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been keeping a close eye on Silva’s growth, with some scouts suggesting that he may be the best central defender of the next decade.

Silva’s deal extends until 2027, but it is believed to contain a £57 million release clause.
